The Problem
Breast cancer prevention begins with understanding. This understanding should start early, when women are adolescents or young adults. In recent years, incidence rates have risen across nearly all demographic groups, especially in the young-onset (usually under age 50) category. Thus, there is a need for proactive education and accessible risk assessment.
Pearl Watch is built on the belief that young people should have the opportunity to explore their personal health landscape before risk factors accumulate. By making research approachable and interactive, the platform encourages users to take voluntary, informed steps toward prevention. Pearl Watch empowers people to recognize modifiable risk factors that can be influenced by lifestyle choices, interpret publicly-available data sources without feeling overwhelmed, and see how scientific research connects to their own daily habits and decisions.
