The project began with data analysis and breast cancer research using SEER data and regression modeling to identify disparities in incidence among Asian American women. From these findings, I drafted a research proposal outlining a digital platform to help young women understand their risk factors, with clear objectives, methodology, and expected outcomes. Securing grant funding allowed the concept to move into prototype development, while this process equipped me with the tools to connect population-level data with the lived realities of young women.
Development
Development began by adapting validated health survey instruments into a format coded in HTML. At this stage, the calculator required tailoring background research into age-appropriate questions, culturally sensitive language, and risk-scoring algorithms. After testing with users for clarity and accuracy, the app underwent iterative revisions, and once reliability was confirmed, it was deployed to promote awareness and generate risk results for all users.
